INDIA COVID-19 RELIEF

COVID-19 in India

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our partner started to be involved in relief work from the last week of March 2020. Due to the numerous lockdowns in India, the economy came to a stand-still. This forced thousands of migrant workers to leave the cities where they were employed because they were without jobs and could not afford to pay rent or meet their basic needs for food, water, and shelter. Many then were required to walk for days to return to their home villages. Travel restrictions prevented some of them from reaching their

homes and they were turned back, returning to the cities where they now camp any place that they can find.

India has the second highest COVID-19 cases and the third highest death due to COVID-19 in the world.

How We Help

Our partner has identified the most vulnerable daily wage laborers and people in need who lost their jobs and income because of the COVID-19 lock down in India.

Through the outreach centers, they are currently:

  1. Raising awareness about the safety measures people need to take such as staying at home, hand washing, maintaining social distance, and wearing masks.

  2. Providing basic ration supplies like rice, oil, wheat flour, sugar, washing soap, bathing soap, salt, and spices.

  3.  Supporting those who are ill through the provision of at-home and in-clinic medical care.
