MEDICAL CARE

Healthcare Access

Over 700 million people live in India’s villages, but 66% of these rural communities do not have access to high quality healthcare, with 31% of the rural population traveling more than 30 kilometers to get basic access to medicine.

We believe this deprivation of basic fundamental rights is unacceptable. With the recent spread of COVID-19, it is more essential than ever that all members of society get equal access to healthcare.

Our partner operates a medical clinic in the city of Bangalore and bring medical care to rural Indian villages.

Clinic

The clinic in Bangalore continues to see many patients with COVID-19 and other ailments. The COVID-19 outbreak in India shows no signs of abating. Testing is inadequate and access to proper diagnosis and treatment is limited among the poor and migrant population. It is believed that the real number of COVID-19 cases and deaths are much higher than the official numbers.

Even without COVID-19, many of the poor, needy and migrant population do not have access to healthcare and the means to pay for medical services. The clinic provides care for many of these people.

Medical Van

In 2019-2020, Life International raised $32,000 and successfully purchased a medical van that carries equipment and supplies that can treat illnesses such as a common cold, fever, malaria, dengue, typhoid, and hepatitis. A doctor driving the van can cover about four villages a day, treating 20-30 patients at each village. After a 5 month delay in the delivery of the medical van due to COVID-19 lockdown in India, the van was finally delivered to our partner at the end of September, 2020.

During the depth of the Covid-19 pandemic, your generous donations helped us buy a 2nd 4-wheel-drive medical van for $60,000, and raise an additional $10,000 of medical supplies, in order to bring medical care and screenings to those in the most remote areas with the least access.

Thank you for your generous support!
